Lettering from the Art Deco period (Late 1920's through the 1930's) featured sleek lines and curves which directly reflected the ambitious architecture and modern design of day. Long gone were the decorative scrolls and flourishes that began with the early 1900's Art Nouveau revival. Serifs were out and modern, sans serif letters that sometimes pushed the boundaries of recognizability were in. Beware, a style made in the late 20's or 30's isn't necessarily Art Deco. A font also requires an air of sophistication and eccentricity to be listed here. |
